Under all conditions of weather, the LWYFA keeps the safety of the participants, coaches and spectators first and foremost in mind. Our Board Members are committed to doing the best that they can to ensure a safe environment for the kids. In the event, that an event is canceled or postponed due to weather, we ask that you respect the decision of the Board Member. The LWYFA will attempt to reschedule all games, if schedules permit.
Severe Weather Warning
In the event any Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warnings are issued for Denton County, all games will be postponed until the warnings have cleared and the LWYFA Board Member on Duty (BMOD) determines that it is safe to resume play.
Lightning
If lightning strikes are recorded within 10 miles of the game location, game play must be suspended immediately, and a running 30 minute clock will be set by the Board Member on Duty. This clock will reset with each new strike recorded within 10 miles. Play will not resume until a full 30 minutes has elapsed without a lightning strike within a 10 mile radius.
Heat
The UIL Guidelines provide the following ranges for wet bulb temperature readings, which take into account actual temperature and humidity. The LWYFA will observe the guidelines as below, however the BMOD during games has the authority to escalate precautionary measures to a higher threat level. (i.e. if the wet bulb reading is only 73, but through observation of the kids it appears they are struggling, the BMOD has the authority to call the game.)
