Tackle Football Schedule Coming Soon

Tackle Football Program

The Wildcats Youth Tackle Football program is designed with the organization's primary objective as the guiding principle in everything we do.  The primary objective of the league is to promote the ideals of good sportsmanship, personal integrity, and team cooperation through participation and instruction in the game of football.

The Wildcats play in a high-level recreational league.  There is a 7 game regular season schedule, plus playoffs if the team qualifies.  There are also optional pre-season games to be determined by each coach.

Home games will be played at Guyer High School.

Given the physical and mental requirements of playing and learning football, it is expected that all participants will consider their participation with Wildcats Youth Sports as their primary activity for the fall season.

All coaches are required to be certified through USA Football to ensure proper safety and instruction of the kids.  As part of the Heads Up Football program, the league will have a designated and certified safety coach which will provide an additional safety course for all coaches, parents, and players.  Any parents interested in being coaches or involved in sideline team activities will also be required to attend some of these events.

Team Formation

The hope of the association is always to have at least one team per grade.  This is determined by the number of participants that sign up.  Our preferred minimum for each team is 16-17 players since some players will inevitably have conflicts or other issues in attending some games.  The maximum per team is set at 22 by our parent league (NTFL) rules.  This is to ensure that every child has a chance to play and learn the game of football.  Once registration reaches 22 kids, the league will create a waiting list until we have 10 additional players sign up.  This is to ensure that we can at least have two teams of 16 players.

In order to create multiple teams, a draft will be conducted to evenly divide the teams.  The draft will be monitored by the NTFL Board to ensure fairness.

All tackle players will be provided with the following equipment:

  • Helmet
  • Shoulder pads
  • Practice jersey
  • Game Jersey (yours to keep)
  • Practice shirt (yours to keep)
  • Pink-Out Package (yours to keep)

Players must provide the following equipment:

  • Game pants (black)
  • Game socks (black)
  • Practice apparel (pants, socks, etc)
  • Mouth guard with strap
  • Protective Cup
  • Cleats
  • Gloves (optional)

Player Combines

The player combines are for player evaluations and are mandatory for all tackle players.  All players need to attend at least one of the dates but are welcome to come for both.  The players will be tested for speed, strength, and agility.  There will also be football-specific drills such as throwing and catching. If a player misses a combine, for whatever reason, and their grade level has more than one team - the player must be a hat pick in the draft.

Players age, grade and address will also be verified at the combines.

Eligibility Requirements & Wait List Policy

All players must live within the school district boundaries of Denton Guyer High School, as defined by Denton ISD.

Wildcats Youth Sports has established the following Wait List Policy in adherence to the By-Laws established by our parent league (NTFL – North Texas Football League). The Wait List is established based on the following:

Waitlist Threshold
3rd (modified) Tackle: Begins at the 17th player registered
4th - 6th Tackle: Begins at the 23rd player registered.

Those guaranteed players noted above will be guaranteed a spot on a team and then a waitlist will be established. If the number of registered players reaches 32, two teams will be established and the players will be divided according to the draft rules. If the number of registered players does not reach 32, the Wildcats Youth Sports Board will determine what would be the best decision for all players involved, and then seek the permission of the NTFL based upon the decision. If the Wildcats Youth Sports Board is unable to assign any registered players from the waitlist to a team, a full refund will be provided.

If you have any questions regarding the eligibility requirements or the waitlist policy, please email us.

Late Fee
A $25 late fee will be assessed for those registering after 6/15.
